Kelly Ripa seems to have put Mark Consuelos in the doghouse when it comes to parenting their two dogs: Chewie, a white and brown Shih Tzu and Lena, a black Maltese/Shih Tzu mix.

On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa brought up an article that detailed the “4 signs your dog thinks of you as mom and dad,” and proceeded to read them aloud.

“Your dog always allows you to leave and come home to a confident, relaxed dog,” she began. “Your dog can relax around you. Your dog can comfortably move through different situations.”

While the two co-hosts seemed to both agree that their dogs “can comfortably move through different situations,” Ripa seemed to pause as she read the final sign: “Your dog usually spends their time in a calm demeanor.”

While Consuelos replied with a slightly uncertain “yeah,” Ripa decided to pull up some video evidence to prove him wrong.

“Cause I know you like to think Lena thinks of you as mom and dad,” she told Consuelos.

Viewers were then shown footage of Consuelos riling up Lena, whom that they adopted in March 2021, per People.

Another clip featured Consuelos being barked at by Lena on the bed, prompting him to tease her with a rolled-up magazine and say “attack,” until she eventually hopped off the bed.

Consuelos chimed in in real-time, exclaiming, “She’s playing!”

In contrast, Ripa showed a clip of their other dog Chewie remaining incredibly calm as she talked to her behind the camera.

Ripa quipped, “See how they are around me, versus around you? Around me they just stare at me, waiting for something to happen.”

Consuelos then asked, “So who am I? I’m not mom and dad to them?”

Ripa claimed that he’s “the exotic stranger who comes to town.”

Consuelos justified this title by noting that he “didn’t have dogs growing up.”

“So we were [under] the mindset that if there’s an animal in your house, you wanted to get it out of your house,” he explained. “It was a problem if there was something living that wasn’t meant to be there.”

However, Consuelos admitted that he’s become fond of pets, sharing that he’s “so happy that [they] have these dogs.”

Kelly revealed that “Mark with the dogs is like Mark when [they] were raising [their] children,” saying that after hours of calming their children down for bed, “Good Time Charlie would show up.”
