Like any sane television fan, I greatly admired the work of the late Lance Reddick, who died on March 17 of natural causes. The prolific actor was best known for portraying Cedric Daniels on The Wire, Charon in the John Wick franchise, and his magnetic performances in a bevy of high-profile projects (White House Down, Fringe, Oz, and Lost, to name a few). While I loved Reddick in those roles, my personal favorites will always be his work as Christian DeVille in Comedy Central’s underappreciated anti-workplace comedy Corporate and, of course, Police Chief Irvin Irving on Amazon’s long-running police drama Bosch.

The Season 2 premiere of Amazon Freevee’s Bosch: Legacy paid tribute to both Reddick and former cast member Annie Wersching (Officer Julia Brasher, who died of cancer in January 2023), with the episode beginning with a message that read “In Loving Memory of Our Friends Annie Wersching and Lance Reddick.” Before Reddick passed away, he filmed his first and final appearance on the spinoff, which took place during the second season finale (“A Step Ahead”).

The scene is a reunion between Irvin and Honey Chandler (Mimi Rogers), and it doesn’t take long to find out what former Police Chief Irving has been up to since the events of the series finale of Bosch.

“Well, you’re looking sleek and sassy,” Honey says upon Irv’s arrival. “The private sector agrees with you.”

Honey wants Irving’s endorsement to run against District Attorney Emmett Archer. The whole scene lasts less than two minutes, but, thankfully, Bosch fans are treated to Irving’s signature catchphrase:

There it is. That’s the stuff. “Fucking Bosch” is a phrase I became quite familiar with back in 2021 when I became the fastest person in recorded human history to watch all seven seasons of Bosch. I even embraced my inner middle schooler and made a “Lance Reddick saying the word Bosch” collage, which, in my opinion, was time very well spent.

Thankfully, Bosch: Legacy has been renewed for a third season. We’ll see you in 2024, Bosch fans.
