Jimmy Kimmel and RuPaul’s Drag Race star Trixie Mattel decided to help Ted Cruz out with a bit of promotion for his new book, Unwoke: How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America, on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The late night host invited Mattel to read Cruz’s new “unwoke” book to kids for Drag Queen Story Time, so that they could share their thoughts on Cruz’s new anti-woke opus. And it went about as well as one would expect.

“Ted’s been out trying to sell the book,” Kimmel said. “His last book, he had to get his own campaign to buy thousands of copies to get it up the list, which is sad. So we decided that, this time, we’d help him out with an assist from one of the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

The segment, which was called “Drag Queen Storytime,” featured Mattel reading to a group of kids in a classroom. She started off by reading from Cruz’s rant about The Little Mermaid reboot starring Chloe Bailey, which read, “Instead of admitting that Disney had managed to ruin a classic, defenders of the subpar remake—including its star—accused the public of racism.”

The kids weren’t buying it.

“But the original Little Mermaid was good and the other Little Mermaid was good—the new one,” one child said.

Mattel responded, “Can’t they both be good?” The kids all seemed to agree.

But the same child was already checking out of Cruz’s Unwoke ranting. “I just want to say out loud right now, the book is boring,” she announced.

“Should we just skip a few pages?” Mattel asked the kids, to which they all cheered. “The book is so boring, right?”

“Instead of skipping a page, skip a book!” the same child responded.

Other children became more vocal about their dislike of the book, saying, “No, we learned nothing today.”

To complete the segment, and this edition of Drag Queen Storytime, the kids took turns dunking their copies of Cruz’s new book in the trash. Tough crowd!

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
