Young Sheldon is coming to an end. CBS announced this week that Season 7 will be the series finale for the Big Bang Theory spinoff, much to the cast’s dismay.

The new season will have 14 episodes, which will air weekly on the network after the season premiere on Feb. 15. The series finale will premiere May 16 at 8/7c in an hour-long special.

Iain Armitage, who has played young Sheldon Cooper since the show’s premiere in 2017, reacted to the news on social media after sharing a photo of himself and his co-stars, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan.

“In case you wondered, I love my family,” he wrote on Instagram. “There’s about 200 more people who make Young Sheldon happen and I’m grateful for each of them.”

His statement continued, “We will make the best seventh season we can possibly make. And behind the scenes there will be lots of laughter and lots of tears because I love all of these people so much.”

Revord reacted in the comments of Armitage’s post, writing, “Can’t stop crying. My family forever!”

The spinoff series gave Big Bang Theory fans a peek at Sheldon Cooper’s unique childhood. The show stars Zoe Perry, Annie Potts, and Lance Barber as the young brainiac’s family members, while Jim Parsons is featured as narrator for the show.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement that the hit sitcom was proof that “lightning can strike twice.”

Per Deadline, Reisenbach said, “It set itself apart with a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought characters to life with unique heartfelt stories that drew audiences in from the start.”

Executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Steve Holland also expressed how “grateful” they were to tell Sheldon Cooper’s story.

“Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper, and expanding the story to include the entire Cooper family has been a wonderful experience,” they said in a joint statement, per Deadline. “We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers these past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we’re excited to share this final season with you.”

Young Sheldon Season 7 will premiere Feb. 15.
