After Charity said an emotional farewell to Joey in Fiji, the 28-year-old contestant tearfully admitted, “I thought I was getting down on one knee. I thought it was happening. I was certain. I had zero doubt. I wanted to leave here with Charity. It’s all I wanted… I want love. Bad. I just would ask the universe when? When is it gonna happen for me?”

Well, Joey. It’s happening sooner than you think! During The Bachelorette‘s three-hour finale, franchise host Jesse Palmer announced that Joey would become The Bachelor‘s Season 28 lead. And with The Golden Bachelor‘s debut season and Bachelor in Paradise Season 9 coming to a close, members of Bachelor Nation will be eager to know when The Bachelor is hitting screens.

Anyone who watched Charity’s season of The Bachelorette (or The Golden Bachelor‘s pickleball date for that matter) knows the new Bachelor star from Collegeville, Pennsylvania is a talented pro tennis instructor. After graduation, this tennis pro quickly realized the corporate world wasn’t for him and moved to Hawaii to live his passion of teaching his favorite sport. Spending his days on the court and evenings on the beach watching the sunset with friends, Joey’s life is truly paradise. The only thing missing is someone with whom to share it. Outgoing, friendly and loyal, Joey is looking for a partner who can share in his love for adventure.”

As Decider noted in a previous article, Charity liked Joey’s smile and overall presence from Night 1, but her feelings grew significantly when they broke the record for longest Bachelor kiss (4:25!!!) on one of her first group dates. Later that night, Joey opened up to Charity about his family, sharing the reason his parents got a divorce when he was younger. “I think a lot of times that can be viewed as being in a broken home, but I felt love from both of them, and I think it’s also important to share why they ended up breaking up,” he said, before revealing his dad came out.

“It’s amazing to see the love they still have for each other, and they were great parents,” the contestant continued, admitting that his family’s journey taught him how important love is and made him a more accepting person. Joey’s Bachelorette journey was mostly smooth sailing until his Uncle Joe questioned if he was portraying his true self during Hometown Dates. Ahead of Fantasy Suites, Joey opened up to Charity, saying, “A lot of times in my life I’m not the best version of myself… If this was a relationship where we had more time together, you’d be able to see more moments like last week — more times where I get in a funk or have a sense of doubt…I know it can be taxing to be in a relationship with me.” Charity found his vulnerability and honesty refreshing, but ultimately they weren’t endgame. Who’s In The Bachelor Season 28 Cast? Reality Steve Spoilers For Joey Graziadei’s Season:

Curious who’s joining Joey on his Bachelor journey? Thanks to Jesse Palmer’s After The Final Rose audience member intro, we know one of Joey’s contestants is a Hawaii native named Lea Cayanan. “I’m honestly really excited…I think you carried yourself with such grace,” she told Graziadei.

When asked about his first impressions of Lea, the future Bachelor lead said, “Obviously beautiful. But just the fact that you can be here with so much poise says a lot…I’m excited.” In yet another twist, Jesse gave Lea a mysterious envelope and instructed her not to open it until she stepped foot into the mansion. “It’s not a date card. However, it is absolutely going to help you on your journey,” he said. “And it will absolutely change everything.” Hmm…

Curious what’s in the envelope? Or who some of the other ladies are on Joey’s season of The Bachelor? While ABC has yet to release official cast headshots and bios, Bachelor Nation’s favorite spoiler Reality Steve has been posting regular updates on Joey’s cast, dates, and filming (including Joey’s rumored Final Three).
