The View rejoiced this morning at the news of Rep. George Santos‘ expulsion from the House of Representatives, and even the audience joined in, releasing their own round of whoops and cheers in reaction to the news.

While the show was filming its first segment of the day, news broke that Santos had become the sixth lawmaker to ever be voted out of the House. When The View returned from commercial break, Joy Beharfilling in as host with Whoopi Goldberg gone — jubilantly announced, “He’s out!” as the studio audience applauded.

“Listen,” she continued. “Comedians everywhere are in mourning today.”

Explaining that 311 members of the House had voted Santos out, Behar was quick to point out that Republican leadership stood by Santos, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, Rep. Steve Scalise and Rep. Elise Stefanik.

“They wanna keep him there for the vote, right, Alyssa?” Behar asked her Republican co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, who confirmed as much.

“This will likely lose Republicans a seat,” Griffin explained, before telling the panel that Santos’ expulsion is “a big deal” because he “defrauded the voters.” While Griffin admitted that Santos is “silly,” she said that ultimately, he is “a danger.”

“When you’re a pathological liar, you can’t have access to classified information, you can’t have access to market-moving information,” Griffin said, then called on Sen. Bob Menendez — who was recently caught up in his own corruption scandal — to resign, too.

Behar took Santos’ expulsion as an opportunity to promote her friend, Robert Zimmerman, who originally ran against Santos and “got screwed.”

“He needs to run again! He would be a great congressman,” she insisted, but Sunny Hostin reminded her that ultimately, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul “gets to decide who is going to be the candidate.”

Behar jokingly retorted, “No, I get to decide! And it’s Robert Zimmerman.”

After the conversation drifted back to Menendez — who has been indicted on charges of bribery and conspiracy but pleaded not guilty — Sara Haines said there is a key difference between Santos and Menendez.

“George Santos is feckless,” she proclaimed. “He has no power, never did anything.”

Santos, who is accused of making numerous lies during his time in office and defrauding voters, was indignant upon his ousting from Congress. Following the vote, he said, “To hell with this place,” per The New York Times.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
