Following Jacob Elordi publicly putting down The Kissing Booth trilogy in a recent GQ interview published last month, his co-star Joey King is responding.

According to The Daily Mail, King spoke to Variety at the Balenciaga fashion show in Los Angeles on Saturday (Dec. 2), telling the outlet, “I think it’s unfortunate anyone would feel that way. I had a great time making those movies no matter what anyone says.”

In the Netflix films, the first of which debuted in 2018, King and Elordi starred alongside each other as Elle Evans and Noah Flynn, respectively. The two even debuted for a year prior to the first film’s premiere, per People.

While the films arguably launched Elordi’s career, the actor told GQ that he “didn’t want to make” them in the first place.

“Those movies are ridiculous,” he added. “They’re not universal. They’re an escape.”

King has always stood by the films, previously telling The Independent in 2022 that she “couldn’t be prouder of those movies.”

In response to Elordi’s remarks, Taylor Zakhar-Perez, who starred in the latter two films of the franchise as Marco, Elle’s (King) other love interest, told Variety at the GQ Men of the Year party held on Nov. 16 that he “thought it was a shame because to [his] knowledge, everybody else had such a wonderful experience.”

“It’s a shame that was his experience on the set,” he continued. “Especially when those movies came out, it was a time when we really needed something like that. I know from our fan interactions, getting stopped everywhere I go, what Kissing Booth means to people and what it brought them during such a dark time. I guess the silver lining is he still made people laugh and feel good.”

Elordi, who this year was a co-host of GQ‘s annual event, later that night took a step back from his comments, telling Variety, “I’m incredibly grateful to everybody in it.”

All three of The Kissing Booth films are streaming on Netflix.
