The Late Show will not be returning this week. Host Stephen Colbert broke the news on social media on Sunday (Dec. 3), just under a week after he canceled last week’s episodes after suffering a “ruptured appendix.”

“I’m listening to my doctors and continuing to rest and heal,” he wrote, per Entertainment Weekly. “Thank you for all your well wishes and I’ll see you soon.”

Last Monday (Nov. 27), he shared the following social media statement:

“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week,” he wrote. “I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix.

“I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me,” he continued. “Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas. Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas.”

This week’s scheduled guests included Sarah Paulson, Jason Isbell, Mark Ruffalo, Nicki Minaj, Sara Bareilles, and Rep. Liz Cheney, as well as performances by Isbell and his band the 400 Unit (Monday), Daniel Caesar (Tuesday) and Bareilles (Thursday).

The stars from last week’s guest slate that were unable to appear were Jennifer Garner, Baz Luhrmann, Patrick Stewart, Barbra Streisand and Kelsey Grammer.

Ahead of tonight’s episode — which will be a rerun that originally aired on Oct. 10 — the show’s official Instagram account shared a clip taken from the episode of Colbert’s interview with Rep. Maxwell Frost, per People.

Reruns of The Late Show will air during its usual slot, weeknights at 11:35/10:35c, on CBS. Next-day streaming is available on Paramount+, while subscribers with the Showtime extension can stream episodes live.
