Actor Ken Hudson Campbell, who some may recognize from Home Alone or Groundhog Day, recently began taking donations to offset medical costs for an upcoming surgery.

According to the statement shared on Campbell’s GoFundMe, the actor was recently diagnosed with cancer after a tumor “elusively grew on the bottom of his mouth and began encroaching on his teeth.” The GoFundMe, which was organized by a family member of Campbell’s, aims to gather donations in anticipation of “huge out-of-pocket costs” for his recovery and ongoing cancer treatments.

The actor is expected to undergo a 10-hour-long reconstructive surgery on Dec. 10, which will include removing a “large part of his jawbone” and his lymph nodes.

“Surgeons plan to reconstruct a new jaw for Ken from this leg bone, install it, and treat him with radiation,” the statement reads. “He will have a 6-month recovery period & chemo may be needed afterwards as well.” Campbell will also have to undergo “a feeding tube, skin grafts, and a Tracheotomy” while in the hospital.

The statement notes that Campbell was forced to switch insurances after he lost his SAG-AFTRA health coverage “that he had used for his whole career” in January 2022. Campbell has reportedly been a “card-carrying union member for upwards of 35 years.”

Campbell’s family is reportedly looking at multiple “recovery possibilities” for the actor after his surgery, including nursing homes. But they are still “anticipating huge out-of-pocket costs” for the additional care Campbell may need in recovering from this surgery and his cancer diagnosis.

Fortunately enough, the donations have been rolling in. At the time of publication, the GoFundMe raised $76,256 of its $100,000 goal from over 200 donors.

Some donors wrote sweet messages along with their donations. “I love Max in Armageddon. In addition, oral cancers are terrible. I pray that his surgery goes well. Good luck buddy!” one person wrote.

Another referenced Campbell’s role as Santa Clause in Home Alone. “You gotta help Santa at Christmas! My wife and kids have Home Alone on heavy rotation this time every year. Thanks for helping us get through the holidays…now it’s our turn to help you. Hang in there!” they wrote.

Campbell’s future in acting could possibly be affected by this procedure, the GoFundMe notes.

“We are asking for your help so that Kenny can use the time ahead to return to health, and spend more time with family & friends,” the family’s statement reads in conclusion. “Every prayer, positive thought, dollar, or gesture of support means the world to our family.”
