Bridgerton is back with some surprising news. Netflix and Shondaland announced the steamy historical romance will be returning with new episodes in 2024, but this time, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) love story will be split into two parts.

The first four episodes of Bridgerton Season 3 will premiere on May 16, 2024, while the final four episodes will premiere on June 13, 2024. The streamer’s press release boasts that the new season will be “an ultra-sexy, lavish” entry into the beloved series.

Bridgerton Season 3 will show Penelope officially putting herself on the market for love after she finally gets over her longtime crush on Colin, whose harsh comments she overheard in Season 2. But Colin, who is back from his summer abroad “with a new look and a serious sense of swagger,” is not willing to let go of Penelope so easily…

As the press release teases, “Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.”

And that’s not the only love story Season 3 will be focusing on. Season 2 saw Penelope and Eloise’s (Claudia Jessie) friendship fracture after Eloise learned that Penelope was secretly writing as Lady Whistledown the entire time. Their young friendship acted as a buoy during many Bridgerton episodes, how will Season 3 look without their chemistry?

The new episodes will also show Penelope grappling with her double life as Lady Whistledown, especially as she continues her search for a husband. Could this mark the end of the society gossiper?

Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey will be returning as lovers Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton after leading their own steamy season of the show, which hopefully means viewers will get a glimpse of their honeymoon phase.

On the other hand, it’s currently unclear if Phoebe Dynevor should be expected back after she made an appearance in Season 2, but it certainly doesn’t look like Regé-Jean Page will be returning to the franchise any time soon.

The new episodes will land on Netflix at 3:00 am ET on May 16 and June 13. For now, fans of the Julia Quinn series can catch up on the first two seasons, which are now streaming in full on Netflix.
