Tommy Lee Jones sparked concern on social media after appearing confused as he seemingly forgot whether he shared any scenes with Jenna Ortega in their upcoming crime thriller, Finestkind.

The awkward moment between the Oscar-winner and the Wednesday star happened during the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of their movie on Tuesday night (Dec. 12).

“Did we have any scenes together?” Jones asked, to which Ortega confirmed, “Yes, we have one,” before explaining the scene to him.

After a moment, Jones inquired if the 21-year-old actress — who was simultaneously being instructed by photographers — had seen the movie yet. She told him she hadn’t watched it, before they both began to laugh.

Meanwhile, social media users have since taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their concern for the Men in Black actor.

“Bro I am in tears,” one wrote, while another added, “Agent K had his mind erased :(“

A third person said, “My GOAT got old 😭,” before someone else noted, “This is so sad to see.”

While many poked fun at Jones, who celebrated his 77th birthday in September, others were quick to defend him.

“If anyone is familiar with how filmmaking works, there’s many times where actors, despite their characters being in the same scene, were never in the same room together for shooting it,” one wrote. “Happens all the time.”

Another added, “Everyone here clearly doesn’t understand how movies are made. 2 actors can shoot scenes separately and be in the same scene together. Happens all the time. I actually can’t stress enough how often it happens lol.”

Someone else posted, “Tommy Lee Jones is actually being shockingly sweet with Jenna Ortega, speaking to her, joking with her, smiling. Generally he’s a miserable Scrooge-like figure with a steely contempt in his heart. She truly must be The Cool Girl.”

Finestkind, which comes to Paramount+ on Friday, Dec. 15, follows two half-brothers who reunite as adults and hatch a deal with an organized crime syndicate in Boston, according to the logline. Aside from Jones and Ortega, the movie also stars Ben Foster and Toby Wallace.
