John Schneider has been exposed for startling comments reportedly made on his X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) account about President Joe Biden, declaring that he and his son (presumably Hunter Biden) “should be publicly hung.”

The post, which appears to have since been deleted, was shared in a screenshot captured by X user TVMoJoe, also known as Vulture’s West Coast TV editor, Joe Adalian.

The Dukes of Hazzard star, who was unmasked as the “Donut” and runner-up on The Masked Singer Season 10 finale last night, had written the following:

“Mr. President, I believe you are guilty of treason and should be publicly hung. Your son too. Your response is… ? Sincerely, John Schneider.”

Decider reached out to Schneider’s publicist for comment, and received the following statement from Schneider:

“Seriously, folks? This is my final comment on this. I neither said nor implied any such thing. Despite headlines claiming otherwise, in my post, I absolutely did not call for an act of violence or threaten a U.S. president as many other celebrities have done in the past. I suggest you re-read my actual post and pay attention to the words before believing this nonsense.

It’s my position, which I am entitled to have, that some of our nation’s leaders in Washington have lost their way, and corruption runs rampant, both on our nation’s borders and abroad. Transparency and accountability must happen in order for our constitutional republic to survive. There is no threat implied or otherwise in that statement.”

Decider also reached out to representatives of The Masked Singer for comment, but did not hear back in time of publication.

Adalian’s post featuring the screenshot mentions the passing of Schneider’s wife, which happened in February, per People.

“John Schneider took off more than one mask tonight,” Adalian wrote. “Fox gave this guy a platform tonight. I’m truly sorry for the loss of his wife, but that doesn’t excuse calling for the public execution of POTUS.”

According to Newsweek, Schneider’s comments were made in response to the current president’s post criticizing former POTUS Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump poses many threats to our country: The right to choose, civil rights, voting rights, and America’s standing in the world,” Biden wrote. “But the greatest threat he poses is to our democracy. If we lose that, we lose everything.”

Both posts arrived on X shortly after news broke that Trump was disqualified from the 2024 presidential ballot in Colorado on Tuesday, per The New York Times.

Schneider has previously been blunt with his thoughts on Biden online, per The Wrap. On Oct. 11, he accused the president of funding Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, and in January, he claimed that Biden has “lied on every résumé he’s ever written and every speech he’s ever given.”
