ABC’s ‘The Good Doctor’ Will End Following Upcoming Season 7 

ABC medical drama The Good Doctor‘s Season 7 will mark the series’ last. The show joins the network’s firehouse drama and Grey’s Anatomy spin-off, Station 19, which is also concluding with its upcoming seventh season, per Variety.

According to a press release, showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman, and executive producer Erin Gunn, shared a joint statement in which they deemed the show “a once in a lifetime opportunity,” but noted that “it’s time to say goodbye.”

“We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and the message we’ve been privileged to be a part of,” they continued. “We look forward to giving our fantastic fans, the truly extraordinary Freddie Highmore, the rest of our talented actors (and friends), and the best crew in the business the series ending that you all deserve. Thank you, Sony; thank you, ABC; thank you all.”

Highmore, an executive producer and the actor behind the show’s leading man, Dr. Shaun Murphy — “a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome,” per the show’s logline — said that playing the role “has been an immense privilege and one of the most remarkable and rewarding experiences of my life.”

In addition, he thanked Shore, Feldman, and Gunn, “as well as the hugely talented – and lovely – cast, writers, and crew who made this show possible.”

“Caring deeply is what got us here,” he added. Thank you to Sony and ABC, and to everyone who has watched along at home. With love from Vancouver… tequila, stat!”

Craig Erwich, the president of Disney Television Group, also expressed his gratitude for Shore, Friedman, Gunn, and Highmore, noting that the show “has captivated audiences, who have deeply connected with Dr. Shaun Murphy and the staff at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.”

“As we prepare to finish this beloved story, words cannot express our gratitude for the incredible cast, crew and our partners at Sony and ABC Signature for the lasting impact they’ve made,” he shared.

The Good Doctor Season 7 premieres on Tuesday, Feb. 20 on ABC. Watch the new video honoring its farewell season above.
