To the surprise of nobody at all, The OA fans are back to evangelize about their favorite canceled series.

A controversial clip from the Season 1 finale is circulating on X, leaving many who haven’t seen the show very confused.

In the clip, which was shared from TikTok with no context, an armed gunman appears to walk through a school cafeteria. The camera then cuts between a woman and a specific group of students who are hiding under tables around the cafeteria as the students all appear to agree to make a collective move to stop the shooter.

Any oblivious viewer may assume they agreed to rush or distract the gunman. But no, this is The OA. Instead, the students and the woman all break into a bizarre, synchronized interpretive dance.

The video now has 11.2 million views, not to mention over 2,000 replies and over 7,000 retweets, many of which contain OA fans promising that the clip is not as weird as it seems.

“No bc this series is actually incredible lmao,” one fan wrote. “It looks funny out of context, but the original scene is very powerful. I really really really recommend the show, a lot. A shame it got cancelled.”

Many other fans left similar comments. “Look……… this was some insane shit, but you also kinda had to be there,” one said, while another admitted that it “looks corny” but The OA is “one of the greatest shows of all time.”

One viewer attempted to give some context as to why these students were dancing their way out of a seriously dangerous situation. “CONTEXT: So the dance they do is like some sorta power that gets you out of bad situations that the oa taught them,” they wrote.

The long version is: The OA follows Prairie Johnson (actress and series co-creator Brit Marling), a blind woman who mysteriously goes missing for seven years until she returns with the ability to see. Upon her arrival, she recruits the help of five teenagers (said teens featured in the viral clip) to help her locate a group of missing people. She then teaches them a series of movements that will allegedly help them open the portal to another dimension.

This clip, from the Season 1 finale episode titled “Invisible Self,” shows the students desperately performing the five movements to open another portal. But does it actually work? If you really want to know, you may have to stream the show on Netflix.

Some closure to the situation was thankfully provided in Season 2 before the show suddenly ended on a cliffhanger when it was unceremoniously canceled.

Hopefully, viewers of The OA will one day get the ending they deserve — there certainly seems to be a very strong and present fan community, if this clip proves anything.
