Searching for the perfect movie to watch from home this weekend? Look no further! The French drama Anatomy of a Fall bagged two surprise wins at the 2024 Golden Globes, making now the perfect window to squeeze in a watch before the anticipated Oscar nominations.
Directed by Justine Triet, who also wrote the screenplay with her partner Arthur Harari, the movie follows bisexual German writer Sandra (Sandra Hüller) in the wake of the death of her French husband Samuel (Samuel Theis).
Samuel was found dead outside of their home by their blind 11-year-old son Daniel (Milo Machado Graner), who was going on a walk during the time of his death.
With Sandra being the only witness, she enters a nasty courtroom battle when police are unable to determine whether Samuel took his own life or was murdered.
The dreamy Swann Arlaud enters the picture as Sandra’s lawyer and old friend, and the two blur the boundaries in their new relationship.
Through courtroom scenes, Anatomy of a Fall dives deep into Sandra and Samuel’s marriage, which harbored a lot of regret, deceit, and resentment. With all at odds with one another and Antoine Reinartz stealing scenes as the audacious prosecutor, Sandra must fight for her innocence while protecting her son, who is also a pawn in the investigation.
