The Traitors host Alan Cumming has returned for Season 2 to lead 21 of “entertainment’s most competitive reality stars and famous faces,” as they go head to head, including stars from Love Island USA, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Bachelor, and more.

For those unfamiliar with the reality show, “contestants work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000,” per the show’s synopsis. However, not everyone’s intentions are pure, as amid those deemed the “Faithful” are the “Traitors,” who plot to take all of the money by murdering (eliminating) the Faithful.

All of this dastardly deceit takes place in a stunning old castle, and fans are eager to know its name, its backstory, and whether Cumming actually lives there. Read on to find out.

Where was The Traitors Season 1 and 2 filmed?

According to Parade, The Traitors was primarily filmed at the 19th-century Ardross Castle, which is located in the Scottish Highlands. However, other locations in the area were employed for some of the challenges featured in the show. Outside of its role as a desired TV and film location, the castle also serves as a wedding venue, per the Ardross Castle official website.

In terms of its history, Ardross was purchased by the first Duke of Sutherland in the late 1700s, where he built a hunting lodge. Following various owners and renovations, the most recent name tied to the property is the McTaggart family, who acquired the estate in 1983.

Additionally, this castle serves as the setting for both the US and UK version of The Traitors, both of which are hosted by Cumming, per The Independent.

Does Alan Cumming actually own that castle — or at least live there?

In reality, Cumming does not live in the Scottish castle where The Traitors is filmed, but the Scottish actor did highlight to Distractify that he “love[s] working in Scotland.”

“And it was kind of glamorous, actually, because I had a room…I didn’t actually stay in the castle,” he told the outlet. “But I had a room when I got ready and my clothes and it was vast. And with a gigantic bed, which I laid in a lot at the time.”
