Things got superstitious on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, as Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos talked the superstitions that “Americans are most likely to believe.”

Ripa immediately suggested that it’s unlucky to open an “umbrella inside the house.” However, she was stunned after Consuelos revealed that it only ranked fifth on the list of “bad luck superstitions.”

“Number five?” she exclaimed. “By the way, that should be number one, because if you open an umbrella in the house, horrible things will befall you.”

She also pointed out the more logistical misfortune of being unable to “get the umbrella out the front door” once it’s open.

“You break a lamp, it’s just all bad,” she added.

While Consuelos shared that No. 1 was “walking under a ladder,” the two spent more time discussing No. 4, which was “Friday the 13th.”

Ripa admitted, “Friday the 13th is terrible. It’s pretty bad.”

Consuelos explained, “In New York City, especially if you’re in a high rise, there will not be a thirteenth floor.”

Ripa exclaimed, “But spoiler alert to the people living on the 14th floor,” as she proceeded to mouth, “You are living on the 13th floor.”

Consuelos told viewers that he and Ripa have actually “done that twice,” to which Ripa quipped, “And look at what happened to us!”

However, Consuelos highlighted that “the number 13 in Italy is actually lucky.”

“Also, when a bird poops on your head, that’s also lucky in Italy,” he claimed.

Ripa replied, “Yeah, but everybody that has had a pigeon poop on them, it doesn’t feel lucky in the moment.”

In terms of “good luck superstitions,” Consuelos read off a list that included “finding a penny heads up,” which Ripa could relate to.

“How many times have you seen a penny tails up and you literally jump into oncoming traffic to avoid it?” she said. “It’s so bizarre. But if I find a penny heads up, I will stop and pick it up because it’s lucky.”
