Sunny Hostin Admits To ‘The View’ She Once Lost A Job Because She Arrived At Work Drunk: “I’ve Been Fired A Lot Of Times”

The women of The View are plenty successful now, but just like any of us, they’ve had some setbacks along the way. On this morning’s episode, the co-hosts chatted about the TikTok trend of recording your own firing and posting it to the platform, which sparked a conversation about their own respective layoffs.

Sunny Hostin was in full support of the trend, and even confessed some of the previous roles she’d been axed from before joining The View, where she’s been a panelist since 2016.

“You know, I’ve been fired a lot of times,” she began, noting that she “got fired from Friday’s,” among other gigs.

Sara Haines chimed in to say Hostin was let go “for good reason,” explaining, “you spilled all over someone.”

Hostin replied, “Well, I showed up at work drunk,” to which Alyssa Farah Griffin quipped, “That’ll do it!”

But Hostin wasn’t done, and debriefed the panel about another firing she endured not so long ago.

“I got fired from CNN. They call it ‘going in a different direction,’ but I was fired,” she said, as Joy Behar asked, “Why were you fired there?”

Hostin suggested she was fired because CNN went in “a different direction,” earning her plenty of laughter from the audience as she added, “It was a direction away from me.”

When Behar said it sounded like Hostin was “laid off” instead of fired, Hostin insisted that she was, in fact, canned from CNN, where she first began working in 2007 and later left in 2016 to join The View.

“They said, ‘We’re not renewing your contract, we’re going in a different direction,’ and then two years later, the direction that they went in sucked and they hired me back,” Hostin explained.

The anecdote reminded Behar of her own work history at The View, as she said, “That’s what happened to me, too.”

Behar, much like Hostin, has been open about her career ups and downs, and recently discussed her past at The View when she said on a November 2023 episode, “No matter how high your ratings are, if you tick off someone at the top, they will get rid of you. Uh-huh, that has happened to me.”
