With yet another Republican candidate dropping out of the 2024 race, the field just keeps getting narrower, and with it, the political chats on The View are only getting more heated.

On this morning’s episode of the show, the panel reacted to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspending his presidential campaign yesterday (Jan. 21) and subsequently endorsing Donald Trump.

While revealing the news in a video posted to social media Sunday, DeSantis said he is putting his support behind Trump “because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents,” per The Associated Press.

While Haley remains in the race, The View‘s Sunny Hostin predicted she could accept an offer to run on a ticket with Trump if she doesn’t perform well in the New Hampshire primary tomorrow (Jan. 23).

“I think Nikki Haley would take that job in a second,” Hostin said. “She flip-flops, and I think she’s probably running for vice president right now. If she doesn’t win in New Hampshire, it’s game over. I’m sorry.”

Addressing her Republican co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, Hostin continued, “Your party is looking at just a resurrection of Donald Trump, and he’d be pretty smart to pick Nikki Haley, he would be, because she is very strong with moderates and independents. So now, hello everybody: welcome to Handmaid’s Tale.”

Hostin was likely referring to Haley’s “pro-life” history, which has included supporting laws limiting abortion access and co-sponsoring a bill that would essentially ban abortion without allowing for any exceptions, per NBC News. Meanwhile, Trump has celebrated the reversal of Roe v. Wade, which happened during his presidency.

While Griffin has supported the former South Carolina Governor throughout her campaign, she echoed what she said on air last week when noting that she would no longer support Haley if she were Trump’s VP pick.

“That could actually really boost him if they ended up doing that,” Griffin said this morning, just days after telling The View on Jan. 18 that Trump thinks Haley is “very qualified.”

“I would not support that ticket, and I’m a little fearful she would do it, because I know Jared [Kushner] and Ivanka [Trump] have pushed that,” Griffin said at the time.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
