The ’90s sounded like a fun time for Robert Downey Jr. and Whoopi Goldberg. On this morning’s episode of The View, the two actors looked back on filming their 1991 comedy Soapdish — and the marijuana-filled experience they shared when they were off the clock.

Sara Haines was the first to bring up the film, which follows the behind-the-scenes story of the cast and crew of a popular soap opera. Aside from Goldberg and Downey Jr., it also stars Elisabeth Shue, Garry Marshall, Kathy Najimy and Carrie Fisher.

“I remember, as evidenced in this clip, that she is one of the all-time great scene partners,” Downey Jr. said about The View’s longtime moderator. “I learned a lot about keeping comedy grounded.”

The Oppenheimer star, who was recently nominated for an Academy Award, even remembered the wild times he shared with Goldberg when they weren’t on set.

“I also have this vague memory of her and I and Anthony Michael Hall in a stretch Volvo rolling around New York City,” he recalled. “I’m not going to say whether there was a tiny bit of [ganja] involved. I’m just going to say that it was a wonderful evening.”

Goldberg admitted it was “quite possible” that they engaged in a little pot smoking, before offering up her own praise of Downey Jr.

“There’s nobody better to do stuff with than somebody who is equally as silly as you are,” she said. “That movie is one of the great movies — I think that, for me, anyway — because everybody had a good time. It wasn’t like a bad time. We were all together and we were weird.”

She continued, “It was just a weird group of people and we just had a good time and didn’t really give a poop what people said about it. People didn’t seem to love the movie but it’s now taken on cult status.”

Goldberg concluded that “if you wait long enough, anything is great.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
