Sarah Snook is having her cake and eating it too, and rightfully so.

According to Deadline, the Succession actress has shed more light on comments she recently made to The Sunday Times about a previous unidentified project of hers, particularly being ridiculed by “a producer” on set for eating “the tiniest bite of chocolate cake.”

“I eat whatever I want to, it’s my own body and my own choices,” she told BBC Radio 4’s Today program, ultimately reflecting that she was “too young and naive” to embrace that mentality and stand up for herself at the time.

“That’s the unfortunate situation when there’s a person in a position in a person of authority,” she added. “And taking advantage — not actively taking advantage — but just mindlessly saying something. And it can be taken the wrong way and taken on in a certain context that holds with that person for the rest of their life potentially.”

In her Sunday Times interview, she had opened up about a casting agent who told her that she was” a nobody.”

“‘But the director and the writer think you’re good for the role,'” she remembered them saying. “‘So what we’ll do is change all of you so that you’re marketable: we’ll whiten your teeth, darken your hair, we’ll give you a personal trainer so you can lose weight and look the part.’”

As for the cake, a costume designer had reportedly gotten involved and encouraged her to continue eating it.

“And all the while I’m dying inside,” she added, eventually questioning the”infantilizing of women, to not be able to make their own decisions.”

Snook is transitioning from the small screen to the stage, as she performs all 26 roles in The Picture of Dorian Gray in London’s West End, based on the 1890 novel by Oscar Wilde. While opening up to BBC, she delved into her perception of body image and self-worth.

“I think a person’s beauty and body is their own jurisdiction,” she explained. “They should be allowed to make decisions about that themselves.”
