This morning on Live with Kelly and Mark, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos subtly shaded one of their children — and used The Godfather to do it, no less!

During their host chat, Ripa brought up a “new travel trend” suggesting that “more families [are] opting to take their children during the school year — even on those days where they’re not supposed to take their children out of school.”

“Remember when we were trying to take our kids out of school for a four-day weekend?” she recalled. “It was really a three-day weekend, [but] we’re like, ‘Can we leave on Thursday and make it an experiential trip?’ And they’d be like, ‘No! Your kindergartener needs to be here! We’re working on colors!'”

Consuelos admitted that he and Ripa “didn’t really listen” to those rules while raising their kids, noting that “high school” is when it really became more legitimate.

Ripa chimed in, quipping that they “would handle” teaching their children “the days of the week.”

“Although having said that,” she began, as she shared a knowing look with her husband and co-host, “we did have one kid — won’t name the kid — we did have one kid that until very recently, could not name the months in the year in order.”

While the parents protected their child’s identity, it’s worth noting that all three of their children are in their twenties. Ripa and Consuelos are parents to Michael, 26, Lola, 22, and Joaquin, 20.

Ripa likened their anonymous kid’s mishap to a notable scene in 1972’s The Godfather, in which Apollonia (Simonetta Stefanelli) names the days of the week in English out of order.

“Where she’s like, ‘I speak English, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Sunday,'” Ripa joked along with Consuelos. “This is like this child naming the months! It’s like, ‘August, June, September, February.’ We’re like, ‘Can you go in order of the months of the year?'”

Consuelos defended their unidentified child, claiming that they “have it now.”

“So, mission accomplished,” he continued.

Nonetheless, the two concluded that “sometimes,” if not “every time,” “having those experiences as a family is of equal import as the class lesson.”
