Queer Eye star Bobby Berk recently addressed his shocking exit from the Netflix series and whether it was connected to rumored tension with his co-star, Tan France.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Berk said he hoped to “extinguish some of the speculation” surrounding their conflict. He didn’t share many details, but he confessed, “Tan and I had a moment. There was a situation, and that’s between Tan and I, and it has nothing to do with the show. It was something personal that had been brewing — and nothing romantic, just to clarify that.”

Referring to the telling moment when he unfollowed France on Instagram, Berk said, “Should I have unfollowed Tan? No. Maybe I should have just muted him. But that day, I was angry, and that’s the end of it. We became like siblings — and siblings are always going to fight.”

Berk added that he expected them to make amends soon, saying France will “always have a very special place in my heart.”

“I can foresee in six months or a year, Tan and I at each other’s house being good. The Emmys was already the first bandage on that wound,” he said.

The interior designer also opened up about his decision not to return for another season of the Emmy Award-winning series.

Berk explained that the cast’s contract was only for seven seasons, which they fulfilled in September 2022. He said he “thought we were done” and “started planning other things,” so when Netflix decided to renew the series, he ultimately decided not to return because of previous plans.

“We’d just assumed that the show wouldn’t come back if we all didn’t come back,” he said. “I was like, I’m not going to be having FOMO ’cause the show is not going to happen. I had become at peace with it.”

But the rest of the Fab Five opted to come back to the show, and Netflix decided they could move forward without Berk.

“There were definitely emotions,” he said. “But each one of us had our reasons why we did what we did. I can’t be mad — for a second I was.”

Netflix addressed Berk’s departure in a statement, saying, “We appreciate the heart and dedication Bobby Berk brought to Queer Eye over eight amazing seasons. He will always be a member of the Fab Five family and we wish him the very best.”

The new season of Queer Eye, which marks Berk’s last, is now streaming on Netflix.
