Blue Bloods may be wrapping up, but that doesn’t mean its star is prepared to bid the CBS series farewell. Tom Selleck, the actor who has portrayed Frank Reagan since the show’s 2010 debut, said that he’s “not counting the days so [he] can do something else.”

“I love the work,” he shared in an interview with TV Insider, per Entertainment Weekly. “Sometimes the hours are a little harder because I’m older, but so what? I want work as long as they’ll have me.”

He also claimed that the network “will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it” following its upcoming 14th season.

“The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year,” he continued. “We’re certainly not out of ideas.”

The Magnum P.I. alum reflected further on his Blue Bloods role, noting that he takes pride in “playing a flawed but strong father.”

“On television and commercials, Dad is usually the idiot,” he elaborated. “It’s not my mission on the show, but the by-product is an example of an important patriarch to the family. That’s getting rarer in our culture.”

The news of the police procedural’s two-part final season broke in November, with Selleck deeming his 13-year-run on the show “an honor and a privilege.”

“Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors and crew has been a dream come true and I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes,” he highlighted in a statement, per a November press release. “Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

Sources told Deadline that news of the show being renewed in March arrived with the impression that Season 14 would serve as the finale. The renewal also followed critical negotiations and notable budget cuts, the outlet reported.

Blue Bloods Season 14 Part 1 airs Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. Part 2 will air later this fall. New episodes will be available to stream live on Paramount+ with Showtime, while Paramount+ Essential subscribers will have access to next-day streaming.
