Apple TV+ is really keeping us on our toes this year.

Severance swept the awards season after it premiered in 2022 but the streaming platform has been largely silent on any developments about the show since, leaving fans of the sci-fi hit to wonder when they should be expecting new episodes. According to director and executive producer Ben Stiller, it could be sooner than we think.

Just yesterday (Jan. 29), Apple TV+ shared an image on X from set of lead star Adam Scott making a run for it on-camera. The image description reads, “A black and white action shot of Mark S. (Adam Scott) running down a long white hallway. On the right side of the picture is a large camera recording the scene, confirming Severance Season 2 is in production.”

Stiller re-shared the post to his account, writing, “Back to work.”

Fans rejoined in the replies of Stiller’s tweet. “Don’t rush, but please hurry,” one fan wrote, echoing a sentiment many of us at Decider are also feeling.

The streamer teased the new season earlier this month by sharing another still from the show, though it is unclear if the image is from Season 1 or 2.

Production for the show has been delayed, partially due to last year’s Hollywood strikes putting most productions on hold. But a report from April 2023 claimed production was delayed because the co-show runners Mark Friedman and Dan Erickson had a major falling out while working on Season 1.

Sources claimed the two were no longer on speaking terms after they “ended up hating each other” before Season 1 wrapped. Friedman was planning to leave the show but was asked to return because Stiller allegedly failed to find a proper replacement. The report also alleged that the show has been plagued by “pricey problems,” including “ballooning” episode costs.

This may not bode well for the future of the show. But Apple TV+ has already renewed the series for a third and fourth season after its proved to be such an “awards magnet” for the streamer.

House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, who also wrote for the Emmy-nominated Andor, had been hired to work on Seasons 2 and 3.

Now that we know Season 2 is definitely in the works, it’s only a matter of time before we get a premiere date.

Severance Season 1 is now streaming on Apple TV+.
