The Prime Video animated musical comedy Hazbin Hotel has wrapped up its first season. Created by Vivienne Medrano and based on her viral YouTube pilot, the series follows Princess of Hell Charlie (Erika Henningsen) as she opens a rehabilitation center for sinners in the aftermath of Heaven’s annual purge where angels slaughter demons.

The show premiered Jan. 19, 2024 and features original lyrics and music by Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg. The songwriting duo made their Billboard chart debuts earlier this week with their song “Poison,” featured in Episode 4 and performed by Angel Dust actor Blake Roman.

The final two episodes of Season 1 released early on at 7:00pm ET on Feb. 1, 2024 and tied a few loose strings, while also setting up for an exciting second season.

Episode 7 — “Hello, Rosie!” — deals with the immediate aftermath of Episode 6, which saw Adam (Alex Brightman) and Lute (Jessica Vosk) telling Charlie that they will be targeting her hotel during the impending Extermination.

The princess also found out that her girlfriend Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz) used to be an Exterminator before the angels turned on her for sparing a life during an attack.

In the penultimate episode, Charlie and Alastor (Amir Talai) visit Cannibal Town to recruit help in their fight against the angels while Vaggie asks Carmilla (Daphne Rubin-Vega) for guidance on how to kill angels. Both trips were met with success, meaning that Charlie recruited a few vicious fighters and Vaggie found out that angels can be defeated with their own weapons, which are made of angelic steel.

That brings us to the finale! Wondering who lives and who dies? Get your tissues ready! Here’s everything you need to know about Episode 8 of the new series.

Hazbin Hotel Ending Explained

The eighth and final episode of Hazbin Hotel Season 1 — called “The Show Must Go On” — opens with the hotel crew preparing for battle, and Angel’s friend Cherri Bomb (Krystina Alabado) has come to help. The overlords Vox (Christian Borle), Valentino (Joel Perez), and Velvette (Lilli Cooper) are watching and providing commentary.

As the day comes to an end, Charlie delivers a heartfelt speech, telling her friends and supporters, “I want you all to know that getting to know you has been the biggest honor of my life. Whatever redemption really means, I know you have all tried. I have seen the good in all of you. I love you all so much and live tonight however you want!”

As Charlie has long proclaimed, it turns out that the demons want to be good. The hotel crew gathers in the hotel lobby for a drink and last hurrah, rather than going out and causing chaos. Angel and Husk (Keith David) exchange flirtatious looks, and Sir Pentious (Brightman) makes another failed attempt at wooing Cherri. At the same time, Vaggie and Charlie share an intimate moment and perform a reprise of “More Than Anything,” originally performed in Episode 5 between Charlie and her father.

Then the action gets started. Adam and the Exterminators descend upon Hell to slay the demons, and are met with a giant shield. After a few moments, Adam breaks through the shield and Alastor goes to fight him. The radio demon is too weak and Adam destroys his staff. “Radio is not dead, but it’s ending this broadcast,” Alastor says as he fades away.

Back at the hotel, the crew fights the Exterminators and the first casualty is revealed. That’s right, one of the Egg Bois is dead. Angel steps in before another one could suffer the same fate. Adam makes it to the hotel and Sir Pentious steps up. He plants a surprise kiss on Cherri and attacks Adam with a death ray. Adam takes him out in a snap.

The hotel guests watch in horror and grieve the loss of their friend. Now, Charlie has reached a new level of mad and launches an attack on Adam. As they fight, Vaggie and Lute begin their own battle. Vaggie wins, but instead of killing Lute, she leaves her trapped under a pile of rocks from the hotel’s destruction.

In a surprising act, Lucifer (Jeremy Jordan) arrives to save his daughter. He tells Adam, “You messed with my daughter, so now I’m going to fuck you.” The threat is met with silence before Charlie whispers, “It’s fuck you up, dad.” As Lucifer and Adam fight, the fallen angel taunts him, “Your first wife didn’t seem to hate what I had to offer… or your second!” Lucifer beats Adam to a pulp, but Charlie steps in and intervenes before the situation can worsen.

Despite Charlie’s efforts, Adam doesn’t survive as Nifty (Kimiko Glenn) approaches the scene and stabs him repeatedly. Lute calls off the other Exterminators and the angels retreat, meaning that Charlie and the hotel crew won the battle and Extermination Day is over.

Lucifer and Charlie’s friends comfort the princess as she looks at the ruins of her hotel, and she is encouraged to “fulfill her destiny.” Together, they rebuild the hotel as the Vees conspire over Hell’s newfound glory. Perhaps this is teasing a more contained storyline for Season 2?

The montage cuts to Alastor in an evil-coded scene where he sings about being “hungry for freedom” and wanting to rule over Hell. The radio demon returns to the hotel and paints a smile on his face.

Just when you think the episode is over, Sir Pentious suddenly appears in Heaven, insinuating that it is possible for sinners to redeem themselves and he has been rewarded for making the ultimate sacrifice. Cute! The very final moment of the episode shows Lute approaching Charlie’s mother Lilith and telling her that if she wants to stay in Heaven, she has to stop her daughter. Lute alludes to Lilith wanting Adam dead and brings her his halo, covered in his blood.

Wow, that was a fantastic finale filled with twists and surprises! But count the casualties? I guess the Egg Boi died, and given the brutality of the exterminator’s attack, I’m sure there were a few off-screen deaths… Does Sir Pentious count even though he later resurfaced? Adam is definitely dead, but there were no tears shed over that. Other than that, everybody remained fairly unscathed. Even Fat Nuggets survived!
