No one is safe from their emotions on The Drew Barrymore Show — not even Bryce Dallas Howard, who said she took a beta blocker to avoid crying during her appearance on this morning’s episode.

Host Drew Barrymore introduced the Argylle star with her typical enthusiasm as she gushed over how much she admires the actress.

“I love you so much. I’m, like, having to control myself,” Barrymore said, to which Howard joked, “I took beta blockers so I don’t start crying.”

Barrymore then assured her that her talk show is a safe space to let emotions fly free, telling the star, “Well, you can always cry here. This is where we can just live a life and keep it real.”

And she wasn’t kidding! Less than two minutes later, Howard became choked up while talking about her three cats and two dogs.

“They’re everything,” she said. “I was crying yesterday morning to my husband talking about one of my cats who I miss so much. Her face is just love. And I see my grandmother when I look in her — like the love that I felt with her, you know?”

As her voice began to crack, Howard told the audience, “Oh my god, guys, good luck!”

The love fest between the two actresses continued as Howard praised Barrymore for forging a path for women in film.

“Storytelling is awesome and it’s powerful and the industry is getting stronger and stronger by the day and more and more inclusive by the day,” she said. “You represent that in so many ways, Drew.”

According to the Jurassic World star, she realized this after seeing the way Barrymore interacted with men at a screening of Charlie’s Angels when it first came out in 2000.

“You were like, ‘Guys! I am so excited for this screening! This is gonna be amazing!'” Howard recalled. “You represented female power. And to see female power have such lightness and joy and enthusiasm — you were bringing everyone into that energy. And I was like, ‘Oh, my god. I don’t have to play it cool ever — because I can’t.'”
