The View offered their sympathy to Felicity Huffman after the actor revealed in a recent interview how the college admissions scandal has affected her ability to work in Hollywood. Huffman, who told The Guardian that she has struggled landing roles since serving jail time for fraud, was even offered help by Whoopi Goldberg herself.

While discussing the Desperate Housewives star’s comments about her faltering career, Goldberg recalled her own public missteps.

“I have to tell you, as somebody who has stepped in stuff, she made a mistake. She made a stupid mistake,” she said. “Who amongst us has not made a stupid mistake?”

Sunny Hostin agreed, chiming in to add, “You should never be judged by the worst day of your life,” as Goldberg continued, “I think, listen: everybody does it. We all get caught up, we all do stuff that we are regretting. Her’s was public and you know, she took all the raking.

“She didn’t bitch and moan. She said, ‘I did it, I’m here,'” Goldberg said, before lending a metaphorical hand to Huffman: “So, you know what, Felicity? If I find something, let’s play.”

Earlier in the episode, Goldberg’s co-hosts expressed similar sympathies for Huffman. And for once, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Hostin even agreed on a topic.

“She’s a fabulous actor and it shouldn’t affect her career,” Griffin said. “I strongly disagree with what they did. I think it’s horrible and it sets kids up to not earn things and to teach the wrong lessons. You can’t hold it over their heads forever. It shouldn’t destroy her career and her prospects going forward.”

Hostin made a similar remark, adding, “I hate this country’s cancel culture. I call it consequence culture. If you pay the consequences, then you get your ‘get out of jail free’ card. She paid the consequences, she did her time.”

While speaking with The Guardian for a profile published Feb. 5, Huffman said she was “still processing” after the 2019 scandal, while also offering insight on her life and career after Varsity Blues (the FBI’s name for the operation she and other wealthy families were involved in).

“I did a pilot for ABC recently that didn’t get picked up. It’s been hard. Sort of like your old life died and you died with it,” she told the outlet. “I’m lucky enough to have a family and love and means, so I had a place to land.”

Since 2019, Huffman has appeared in a handful of projects, including The Good Doctor and the podcast Supreme: The Battle for Roe. She is also set to work a Sacramento River Cats series, which is currently in pre-production.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
