Chilling ‘Quiet On Set’ Trailer Shows Nickelodeon Stars, Employees Opening Up About Creator Dan Schneider: “Working For Dan Was Like Being In An Abusive Relationship”

A shocking new documentary promises to pull back the curtain on the so-called golden age of Nickelodeon, when a new age in comedy was ushered in by the likes of Amanda Bynes and Miranda Cosgrove.

ID released the first look at a documentary many have been waiting for. Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV is a two-part documentary that will expose the rumored dark underbelly of Nickelodeon in the early 2000s, when Dan Schneider reigned supreme over much of the channel’s programming.

The trailer features many first-hand accounts from actual Nickelodeon employees, one of which said working for Schneider while he was considered the network’s “golden boy” was like “being in an abusive relationship.”

The documentary also shows Nickelodeon actresses Giovonnie Samuels and Alexa Nikolas talking about their time working with the network.

“I’ve been waiting 17 years for today,” Nikolas says in the trailer. The former actress has come forward about Schneider’s behavior on set before, claiming that he used to “go around with money and ask to take photos of the kids’ feet.”

The television creator left the network in 2018. But what happened to Dan Schneider? Here’s what we know.

Is Dan Schneider dead?

No, Schneider is not dead. He has largely stayed under the radar since he and Nickelodeon parted ways in 2018 following an internal investigation that found he had been verbally abusive towards other employees.

The investigation found no evidence of sexual misconduct, though rumors swirled on the internet for years that Schneider allegedly had a foot fetish and snuck sexual innuendos into the shows. In a 2021 interview with The New York Times, Schneider said the rumors were “ridiculous” and maintained, “The comedy was totally innocent.”

His exit from the company came with $7 million that was still owed to him in his contract.

Is Dan Schneider in jail?

No, Schneider has not gone to jail. A 2022 report from Business Insider revealed he allegedly pushed to include more hyper-sexualized content in his shows, ranging from “revealing” costumes for the young actors to suggestive gags and sketches.

iCarly star Jeanette McCurdy also made a number of allegations in her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died against an unnamed figure from her time on the show that she only referred to as “the Creator.” She wrote that, at the time of Viacom CBS’ internal investigation, “the Creator” was “no longer allowed to be on set with any actors,” per Los Angeles Times.

In 2021, Schneider claimed that he had written and sold a pilot to a different network that was aimed for “more of an adult audience.” He also said he had another pilot in the works for kids.

When does Quiet on Set premiere?
