Curious if someone can give a good massage? Have them cook a brisket! Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos stepped into the kitchen on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, where they were joined by Chef Shereen Pavlides for a special Super Bowl cooking segment.

Pavlides guided them in creating “a spread that celebrates each team’s hometown,” and in honor of the Kansas City Chiefs, she taught them how to make burnt ends, a “super popular” barbecue brisket dish because the city is “known for their barbecue” and “barbecue sauce.”

After instructing Consuelos and Ripa to add the spices — a combination of “brown sugar, some cayenne, smoked paprika, and garlic” — Pavlides noted that they are “short-cutting” the usual approach to preparing the dish because “a lot of people don’t have smokers.”

Later, she introduced the “liquid smoke,” which she deemed their “shortcut” to “infuse that smoky flavor” into the brisket sans smoker.

Donning a pair of disposable gloves, Consuelos stepped up to massage the ingredients into the slab of meat.

Ripa chimed in, “Get in there and massage it! Rub it down.”

Consuelos eventually quipped, “You know, ‘Liquid Smoke’ was my nickname in high school.”

Following a burst of laughter from the Live audience, a perplexed Pavlides asked, “Really?”

Consuelos revealed he was kidding, while Ripa confirmed the alleged moniker was “not true!”

Consuelos continued massaging the meat, even adding in a brief karate chop for giggles. Pavlides then instructed him to massage the meat “on both sides,” prompting Ripa to shed some light on Consuelos’ masseuse skills outside of the kitchen.

“I just want you to know that you’re getting a window into how he gives me a massage,” she joked, as she proceeded to mock his rushed hand movements. “It’s like, ‘OK, you’re done!'”

Pavlides teased, “And only on one side!”as Ripa replied, “Yeah, exactly. One side! You’re done!”
