Darren Criss jokingly teased a similarity he’s found between currently starring as Seymour in the Off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors and working in showbiz as a whole.

The Glee alum stopped by Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, where he talked about working on such “a beloved show.”

“Getting a chance to do any of these standard favorites is a joy,” he gushed to co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, noting that he gets to star alongside his “great pal” and “wonderful partner in crime” Evan Rachel Wood.

Ripa revealed that she and Consuelos “have a real soft spot” for the fan-favorite show because that was their “daughter’s first musical.”

“She didn’t want to be on stage, so she’s The Voice of Audrey II,” she explained, referring to the show’s iconic man-eating plant in his character’s flower shop.

Criss chimed in, “Spoiler alert, there may or may not be an alien talking plant, if you want to know what the show’s about.”

Eventually, Ripa asked Criss what it’s like to work with an “animated, man-eating plant,” to which he offered up the perfect response.

“You know, I’m in showbiz, so I feel like I’m working with a lot of man-eating plants on a day-to-day basis,” he quipped.

Consuelos hilariously echoed Criss’ joke with an “Amen, brother.”

Criss continued, “I speak the language very well, I’ve made it this long.”

In terms of his relationship with everyday, non-man-eating plants, Criss revealed that unlike his mother, who “has an amazing green thumb,” he describes himself as being “like the antichrist to that.”

“I somehow manage to kill plants without even trying,” he teased. “So I think there’s some kind of poetic justice of me now interacting with a plant that’s trying to kill me as opposed to the other way around.”
