The Bachelor‘s Joey Graziadei and his 10 remaining women traveled to Montréal for Season 28, Episode 6, but despite the stunning new scenery and elaborately planned romantic dates, the vibes this week were majorly off.

In his most vulnerable show of emotion yet, the 28-year-old lead opened up to cameras and contestants about the fears and insecurities he felt were holding him back from fully investing in this process. He finally sent a contestant home ahead of a rose ceremony, he felt sick during a one-on-one date, and he said an emotional goodbye to one of his strongest connections when she self-eliminated over differing priorities.

All in all, The Bachelor aired one of its most compelling, refreshingly real episodes of television in quite a while. And though Joey’s terrified he’ll end up alone at the end of his journey, it’s clearer than ever that he has several strong connections ahead of Hometown Dates.

So who went home during The Bachelor Season 28, Episode 6? Who got a one-on-one date in Montréal? And who self-eliminated from the show? Decider’s recap has all the answers.

Joey’s Putting The Reality In Reality TV

The episode kicked off with a rare but relatable look at a leading man’s inner monologue. “I know I should be feeling great, but I’m really struggling,” Joey said in a voiceover, explaining that he’s falling for multiple women, which scares him. “There’s some women that I’m scared to death would go home if I shared how I was feeling and they didn’t feel the same way. I think the fear comes from me being scared that this isn’t going to end up working out for some reason.”

Joey said the last time he really opened up with another person was with Charity, and he had his heart broken. We’ve heard those same sentiments from franchise leads before, but Joey took things a step further by looking inward, pulling himself out of the reality TV bubble, and touching on just how emotionally taxing it can be to navigate such an unnatural situation.

“I’m trying to do my best to express how I feel and show who I am, it just — it’s hard to do that while also trying to be fun and be more light and sometimes it’s just not me,” he explained. “I’m not this super energetic ‘here we go!’ Joey. That’s not who I am. I just feel like sometimes people expect you to be a certain way and it’s just like, is it really me? I don’t know.”

When a producer asked Joey why he feels like he needs to be perfect, the 28-year-old replied, “I don’t feel like I need to be perfect. I feel like people expect me to be.” He shared that most of his life he’s struggled with imperfections, and though he’s tried to work through the self-doubt and fears it’s been a challenge. “I’ve always been my biggest critic, and I’m afraid of someone not accepting me for me. I don’t know what that is. I’m still trying to figure that out.”

Episode 6 Group Date Recap: The Saddest Scavenger Hunt In Bachelor History

Before his group date commenced, Joey took a beat to sit with his thoughts and have a cathartic cry. He gathered his emotions and vowed to share where his head was at with the women. After proud Canadian Jesse Palmer clued the ladies in on their scavenger hunt date, Joey met Daisy, Kelsey A., Katelyn, Jenn, Rachel, Lexi, Lea, and Jess and set out to explore Montréal.

After expressing his emotions, visiting a souvenir shop, and getting some French lessons, Joey and his gals met chef Chuck Hughes at Jesse’s favorite restaurant to make some poutine. As Joey’s chemistry with Jenn, Rachel, and Daisy dominated the date, multiple women told cameras it was getting harder and harder to see his connection with the other women. During the cocktail party that evening, the vibes plummeted even further and group date fatigue set in strong.

Feeling the pressure to cheer up eight sad girls, Sad Boy Joey started by sharing his truth: “I’m feeling the weight of a lot of this. I’m scared of getting too invested in someone and having it not be reciprocated.” His words struck a real cord with the women, who sensed they needed to reassure him that they were invested in a future together for a change. Kelsey A., Jenn, and Jess all told Joey they were falling for him. And coming off their successful one-on-one date, Lexi took time to check in with Joey about his post-Bachelor timeline. Since Lexi has endometriosis, which can impact her fertility, she wants to have kids fairly soon after getting engaged and married. Joey told her he envisioned a two to three year engagement followed by “a couple of years before kids to enjoy marriage,” and that clearly upset Lexi, who said she needed to process the conversation.

Former Bachelor lead Nick Viall recently criticized Joey for “taking the easy way out” of ending relationships by waiting for rose ceremonies to say goodbye to contestants with whom he didn’t see a future, but in Episode 6, Joey sent Jess home early after she told him she was falling for him. “I feel terrible. This is my fear. I’m afraid it’s gonna happen to me,” he tearfully told cameras. After reminding the women how seriously he’s taking his search for love, he gave the group date rose to Jenn.

Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Toussant’s One-On-One Date Recap: Cirque du Soleil All Day

Just when Joey thought his Episode 6 worries were behind him, he took Kelsey T. on a Cirque du Soleil date and learned he has very little tolerance for spinning. As aerial specialist Marie-Michelle Faber taught the two all sorts of airborne tricks, Joey dealt with debilitating dizziness and feared he was going to get sick. Though he was unable to enjoy the daytime portion of the date to the fullest, the way Kelsey responded to his setback only made him like her more.

At dinner, Kelsey took time to open up about her family dynamic, revealing that she and her dad stopped talking for “a very long time” because he wanted her to focus on religion and didn’t support her decision to go to college. Kelsey said, it “messed with me so bad” and “affected the way I trust in relationships,” but she also revealed the two have reconnected over the past few years and are working on their relationship. Despite the distance from her dad, Kelsey revealed she wants a husband, to be loved, and to give love, and Joey gave her a rose.

Joey Graziadei and Maria Georgas’ One-On-One Recap: The Pretty Woman Date

After an emotional week, Joey turned to his comedic Canadian, Maria, in hopes of a day of fun and freedom, which is exactly what he got. Maria got what Bachelor Nation refers to as the Pretty Woman date, so Joey picked her up in a limo and took her shopping for a special gown.

The two hopped in a helicopter, drove to a theater, and shared a romantic dinner along with some much-needed conversations about their feelings for each other. Maria revealed she’s more than ready for an engagement and was falling for Joey in ways she didn’t expect. Joey said “the idea of this not working out scares the living shit out of me” but promised to do everything he could to make her feel special and loved. After a private dance to FEIST, Joey gave Maria the rose, but his Episode 6 heartbreak was far from over…

An Unexpected Self-Elimination

Following the group date, Lexi felt the conversation about timelines was “a turning point for her” and was devastated to learn that Joey wanted to wait around five years before having children. Ahead of the rose ceremony, she went to his hotel room and told him that because of her endometriosis, she doesn’t have the privilege of a long engagement. She said Joey made her feel “so heard and respected” on their one-on-one date and she’ll “forever remember that conversation,” but she didn’t think it was fair to remain on the show when their priorities didn’t match up.

A “stunned” Joey revealed their date in Malta left him with “no doubts” about their future. “I wasn’t expecting this. I had hoped going into next week we could further the conversation to be on the same page,” he said. Though he was crushed, he respected Lexi’s decision and told her she would be “a remarkable mother.” Still, the early departure reignited his fears that his person could walk right out the door and he’d end the journey alone.

The Bachelor Rose Ceremony Recap: Who Went Home Season 28, Episode 6?

Going into the cocktail party, the women went easy on Joey and the mood finally lightened. He gave Daisy a foot massage, got a piano lesson from Jenn, and told cameras, “Overall, I think this was a good week. So many women that said nice things to me.” Precious.

Wondering who went home in Episode 6? On top of the group date roses that went to Kelsey T. and Maria, Joey handed out three roses to Daisy, Kelsey A., and Rachel. So in addition to Jess and Lexi, Lea and Katelyn went home.

Next week? We’re headed to Jasper, Canada for another round of pre-Hometown Week dates. In a preview, Joey is heard saying, “I know this week is gonna crush me — it’s not a matter of if, it’s when.” So stay tuned for another dramatic Bachelor recap.
