Wendy Williams’ Niece Tells ‘The View’ She Doubts Motives Of Those In Her Aunt’s Inner Circle As She Struggles With Health Issues: “Are You Getting Paid?”

Wendy Williams‘ niece Alex Finnie stopped by this morning’s episode of The View, where she questioned the motives of those in her aunt’s inner circle as she struggled with her health.

As pointed out by co-host Sara Haines, Williams’ assets were frozen in 2022 and she was placed under a temporary financial guardianship after the court found “strong reason to believe that Williams [was] the victim of undue influence and financial exploitation.”

When asked if there was any truth to the claims that other people were improperly handling the former Wendy Williams Show host’s finances, Finnie confirmed that she raised questions about some people Williams was close to.

“What I will say in terms of things that I have seen over the last two years, yes, there were definitely people around her that you do question,” she said. “Why are you here? What’s your motive? How are you doing this job? Are you getting paid? Because I’m sure you’re not doing it for free. There were those questions.”

She continued, “Then obviously cognitively, with seeing my aunt in the state that she’s in, you do wonder, OK, if she did sign off and hire you or whatever the case may be, was she aware of everything? So that leads us to where we are now.”

Williams’ unnamed court-appointed guardian — who has “limited” contact with the family, according to Finnie — reportedly placed the former talk show host in a care facility to deal with her “cognitive issues.” However, Finnie revealed on The View that getting in touch with her aunt has been a “big problem” for the family.

“There was a period where my grandfather was in the hospital,” she said. “There was no way to contact [Williams] and let her know what was going on with her 93-year-old father.”

Earlier today, Williams’ care team shared a press release revealing that she had been diagnosed with dementia and aphasia in 2023. While the release states that both conditions “have already presented significant hurdles in Wendy’s life,” it also notes that she “maintains her trademark sense of humor.”

The star’s health struggles will be documented in the new documentary Where is Wendy Williams?, which premieres on Lifetime on Saturday (Feb. 24).
