It’s not easy being the wife of a presidential candidate — especially when you’re an actress whose co-star publicly denounces your husband’s campaign. While this happened to Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines, she insisted that there are no hard feelings between her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and her co-star Larry David.

On Wednesday night’s (Feb. 28) episode of Watch What Happens Live, the actress was asked about Kennedy’s reaction to David saying he doesn’t support his presidential campaign.

“You know what’s so funny about that? We actually had dinner with [David] that night,” she said.

According to Hines — who plays David’s ex-wife in Curb Your Enthusiasm — their dinner wasn’t the least bit awkward.

“Weirdly, it wasn’t,” she insisted. “These two have been friends for so long and I think when Larry said it, I think he was being Larry, like, ‘Oh, I support him but I don’t support him.’ And I think Larry and Bobby are like, ‘Well, OK.'”

She added, “And I’m just like, ‘Pass the asparagus. This is a weird night, but OK.'”

Host Andy Cohen then pointed out that Hines seems perfectly fine being friends with people who don’t support her husband, noting that she appears to let the criticism “roll” off of her.

“I mean, I try to let it,” she said. “But everybody can think the way they want to think and support who they want to support. I’m not gonna be mad at somebody if they don’t agree with me or if they don’t see it my way. I mean, it’s not always easy.”

Cohen further pressed Hines on how she reacts if she doesn’t agree with some of her husband’s controversial beliefs, including the notion that “poppers started AIDS.”

“I say, ‘I disagree with you.’ And then we have a conversation and a lot of like, ‘OK. In 1987, there was an article that was written by blah blah blah,'” she explained. “So there’s a lot of [debate].”

All controversy aside, Hines’ Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Susie Essman, who also stopped by the Bravo Clubhouse, declared that Hines would be “the classiest First Lady that ever hit the White House” if Kennedy were to win the 2024 election.

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
