A cause of death has been announced in the case of Pawn Stars businessman Rick Harrison‘s son, Adam Harrison, who died in January.

TMZ reports Adam passed away from an accidental overdose of fentanyl and methamphetamine. His death has been ruled an accident, according to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Adam died suddenly in January while in Las Vegas. He was 39.

Soon after Adam’s death made headlines, Rick issued a statement through his representative confirming that his son passed away from a fentanyl overdose.

“Yes, I can confirm Adam died from a fentanyl overdose. The fentanyl crisis in this country must be taken more seriously,” he said. “It seems it is just flowing over the borders and nothing is being done about it. We must do better.”

Adam is one of Rick’s three children. It appears that he led a rather private life, as he opted not to appear in any episodes of Pawn Stars.

According to a police report, Adam was staying in the guest house of a property in Las Vegas at the time of his death. He had recently been released from serving three months in prison, though it’s unclear what he was serving time for.

Prior to his death, his roommates said that they hadn’t seen Adam in a couple of days because he was “ill and quarantining” in the guest house. When he later failed to answer the door, his roommates asked the landlord to open the door to his unit, where they found him unresponsive.

The other housemates said they felt like his behavior was “erratic and strange” leading up to his death, noting he sometimes barricaded himself inside the guest house.

After news broke of Adam’s death, Rick shared a photo of himself and his son on social media, writing, “You will always be in my heart! I love you Adam.”
