Millie Bobby Brown Confuses Us All With Her American Accent On ‘The Tonight Show’

Internet sleuths have a new case to take up this morning: Millie Bobby Brown was present The Tonight Show, but her British accent was nowhere to be found.

The actress visited Jimmy Fallon to promote her upcoming Netflix movie Damsel and talk about her recent engagement to Jake Bongiovi. But fans online were more focused on her shocking American dialect than the stories she shared.

“She sounds so American now,” one fan commented on Instagram.

“She doesn’t sound British at all anymore!” another fan wrote.

Various fans flocked to the comments to question what, exactly, happened to her English accent. Many people noted that she had likely gotten used to speaking in an American accent since production on Stranger Things Season 5 recently resumed in Atlanta.

“For everyone saying she doesn’t have her British accent anymore, bear in mind that she is currently filming ST5 so she has been using her American accent more recently,” a fan wrote.

Another compared Brown to actor Gary Oldman, who once said he had to hire a voice coach to get his English accent back after living in America for so long.

“I know most people don’t realize this but oftentimes actors who are using a different language for a film, forget how to speak their natural accent,” a fan wrote. “Gary Oldman is a perfect example. He had to go to language therapy to get it back. She is also currently filming, so the American accent is naturally coming out.”

(We can think of another actor who said he had to use a vocal coach to get his accent back, but we’ll leave him out of this.)

The British actress grew up in Bournemouth before moving to Orlando, Florida, when she was just eight years old. She soon began acting and landed her first role in 2013 as a guest star on Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.

Production on Stranger Things is now underway, with Season 5 expected to premiere on Netflix in 2025.

Brown’s new movie Damsel premieres on Netflix March 8.
