Poor Things

Powered by Reelgood

This week on VOD, it’s all about raising the dead: two of this week’s most anticipated new releases on demand are Poor Things and Lisa Frankenstein. Both are darkly comedic and, perhaps in an effort to get ready for the Easter season, they feature plots about resurrection.

If you want to strike a more serious tone, check out the Japanese drama Monster, which was a winner at last year’s Cannes Film Festival. The film is a story filled with secrets and misunderstandings surrounding the relationship between two young school boys, their families, and a teacher at their school. Directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, the film is told from the perspectives of a student, his desperate mother trying to understand the changes in her child’s behavior, and the teacher who knows the truth.

These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.

Poor Things

One of the darlings of awards season, Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things is now available on VOD if you haven’t caught it yet. The film, which is currently up for 11 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress for Emma Stone, is the story of Bella Baxter (Stone), whose body is resurrected and given the brain of a baby. To everyone’s surprise, she develops… quickly. Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef and Willem Dafoe co-star.

Lisa Frankenstein

In keeping with the theme of reanimated corpses, another new release on VOD this week is Lisa Frankenstein, the Diablo Cody-penned horror comedy about a young woman named Lisa (Kathryn Newton) who inadvertently reanimates the dead body of a Victorian-era young man (played by Cole Sprouse). As Lisa gets to know the Creature who rose from the dead, it turns out he needs her help reassembling some of his vital parts, and they end up killing several people in order to get him the pieces he needs, trying to avoid the police who suspect they’re behind the killings.
