Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine are making waves for their magnetic chemistry in Prime Video‘s The Idea of You, which just released its first trailer today.

The film, which is directed by Michael Showalter, also stars Ella Rubin, Reid Scott and Annie Mumolo. It follows a single mom who begins seeing the younger frontman of one of the world’s hottest boy bands, August Moon, after accompanying her daughter to Coachella and meeting him backstage.

Being as the film is based on a book, it has quickly garnered attention from those in Harry Styles‘ fanbase who believe it’s fan fiction about the “Watermelon Sugar” singer.

What is The Idea of You about?

The Idea of You brings every boy band fanatic’s dream to life as Solène (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mother, embarks on a whirlwind romance with Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the 23-year-old lead singer of August Moon, after meeting him at Coachella.

How is Harry Styles connected to The Idea of You?

The Idea of You is based on author Robinne Lee’s 2017 book of the same name. While speaking to blogger Deborah Kalb the same year the book hit shelves, Lee revealed that the character of Hayes Campbell was loosely inspired by Styles.

“A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise,” she said. “It was like…art.”

After spending an hour researching Styles, she “discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.” When her husband returned from his trip, she joked that she was leaving him and their children for the “perfect guy” who also happened to be half her age.

“My husband laughed, and then a moment later said, ‘You know, that would make a great book,'” Lee recalled.

In a 2020 interview with Vogue, Lee said she made Hayes Campbell her “dream guy,” telling the outlet, “Like Prince Harry, meets Harry [Styles].” She also drew inspiration from a younger ex-boyfriend, her husband and actor Eddie Redmayne. However, she insisted that the story is not “about” the former One Direction member.

“This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,” she said. “It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”
