The fifth and final season of Stranger Things won’t be dropping on Netflix any time soon, according to star Millie Bobby Brown.

On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress — who recently turned 20 years old — hinted that she’d probably be closer to 25 by the time Season 5 of the hit sci-fi series lands on the streaming platform.

Host Drew Barrymore noted in her interview with Brown that it feels like the young star has been on Stranger Things for “28 years.”

Brown agreed that she’s been playing Eleven for her “whole life,” telling Barrymore, “I think for me it has been a long time. I auditioned when I was 10 and I started filming when I was 11 … I think it was like next year by the time we finish filming or something it’ll be 10 years.”

Barrymore then pointed out that it’ll be closer to 11 years of Stranger Things, since Brown will be 21 by then.

“By the time it comes out I’ll be like 25,” Brown quipped. She was probably exaggerating — but if she wasn’t, that would mean it could take up to five years before the show returns for Season 5.

The first three seasons of Stranger Things came out in 2016, 2017 and 2019, respectively. However, production shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major delay for Season 4, which didn’t premiere until May 2022.

The show faced even more setbacks going into Season 5 when the dual Hollywood strikes forced creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer to pause production until there was a resolution.

“Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins,” they wrote on X in May 2023. “While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out.”

Fortunately, the official Stranger Things X account revealed in January that production for Season 5 officially started. And earlier this week, star Caleb McLaughlin teased a behind-the-scenes photo of him holding hands with co-star Sadie Sink, captioning the pic, “Lumax ❤️.”
