‘Today’s Jenna Bush Hager, Hoda Kotb Gush Over John Cena’s “Crazy” Nude Stunt At The Oscars: “I Keep Looking In Awe”

This year’s Academy Awards included many memorable moments, but one stood out from the rest for Today hosts Jenna Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb: John Cena presenting an award while completely naked (well, almost completely naked).

After performing a bit with Jimmy Kimmel, the former pro-wrestler took the stage in nothing more than a pair of Birkenstocks to present the Best Costumes category.

“Costumes … they are so important,” he said after he finally scooted over to the microphone while holding the envelope in front of him for some much-needed coverage. “Maybe the most important thing there is.”

Kotb and Bush Hager laughed as they looked back on the moment together. “The biggest laugh came from John Cena being naked. Did you see it? That was SO good,” Kotb told her co-host. “Look at him! Everyone’s dying.”

Bush Hager commented, “The best part is he’s wearing Birkenstocks. Like, he’s completely naked but he has some Birks on. It’s everybody’s crazy uncle.”

They then saw another angle of what Cena was — and wasn’t — wearing onstage, which appeared to be some kind of nude protective covering. “What is that?! Like some tape? Or is it pinned?” Bush Hager asked.

“It’s a diaper! It’s like a diaper that is skin-colored,” Kotb replied.

“I kept looking in awe because you could see a little bit of whatever that was, the diaper,” Bush Hager said. “I was like, ‘How did that happen?'”

The co-hosts also declared that Ryan Gosling “won” the Oscars with his iconic rendition of “I’m Just Ken,” which nabbed an Oscar for Best Original Song.

The amazing performance included dozens of back-up dancers and a special appearance from Slash.

Bush Hager joked that the show-stopping performance reminded her of her youth. “At some point he gets thrown into the air like me at the Pearl Jam concert in the 9th grade,” she said. “It was amazing!”

Kotb noted that the Barbie cast appeared to be in good spirits despite the fact that the blockbuster film only walked away with one award that evening.

“It was brilliant. I just like how he was delighting in it and his cast was, they didn’t win a lot yesterday but they had the most fun,” she said.
