The Gentlemen, Netflix’s new crime series from Guy Ritchie, is filled with characters that you love to hate and hate to love. Could it really be any other way? These characters make the worst mistakes, have the most askew judgment, and are guided by vengeance first and foremost. Again, this is a crime series from Guy Ritchie. It may be called The Gentlemen, but these people are not the kind you’d bring home for dinner.

Except for one. Amidst the mayhem, one beacon manages to shine through. That beacon is Jimmy, a weed specialist with precisely zero ability to really grasp just how deep in it he is at any and all times. And that is why we love Jimmy! And honestly, Jimmy may be the only true gentlemen on The Gentlemen. But who is Jimmy Chang? And who plays Jimmy Chang on The Gentlemen? Get ready to meet the actor behind your new fave — !

Who plays Jimmy Chang on The Gentlemen? Meet Michael Vu

Your new fave character comes to life courtesy of Michael Vu. This is Vu’s breakthrough role. He was previously most known for the films Anuvahood and Sumotherhood, both collaborations with BAFTA winner Adam Deacon.

Who is Jimmy Chang on The Gentlemen?

Oh, he’s the heart and soul of the series! Jimmy is the Glass crime family’s chief grower operating out of the Horniman mansion’s lower levels. Jimmy is a cannabis expert and is perpetually so high that he’s practically in orbit. He’s genuinely sweet, if a little dim, and you absolutely cannot help but root for the guy.

This is especially true in Episode 3 wherein — SPOILERS if you haven’t made it that far — we get to see a bit of a day in the life of Jimmy. It just so happens to be the worst day in Jimmy’s life, because his entire weed shipment gets knicked along with, uh, his van. But can you blame him? He just stopped off for a delicious egg and bacon pancake stack at a Patty’s Service Station (a location that was actually once a Little Chef roadside restaurant) — and that’s when he fell head over heels for a beautiful woman named Gabrielle (Ruby Sear)… who was clearly conning him so her partner could play IRL Grand Theft Auto. But what was Jimmy to do? She also puts the Patty’s special sauce on her pancakes!

But I gotta reiterate: Jimmy is the heart and soul of this series. Seriously! You, me, we as viewers are only doing okay if Jimmy is doing okay. There’s a lot of violence and sociopathy in The Gentlemen, but Jimmy? He is a puppy dog — one that’s constantly in danger of being run over. C’mon, Jimmy! You can do it! Make it to the season finale! And please, Netflix, give us more Michael Vu.

The Gentlemen is now streaming on Netflix.
