Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns just shared a major update regarding the upcoming Twilight reboot: It’s going to be animated.

“We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that,” Burns said during a recent Q&A at the Morgan Stanley media conference, per Deadline.

The Twilight animated television series was first announced in April 2023. According to Deadline, Lionsgate planned to make the adaptation animated from the start.

It remains unclear who will be involved in the series as it is still in early development. But Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, who co-wrote the scripts for the live-action films, is expected to be involved. Wyck Godfrey, one of the original producers for the blockbuster movies, is also attached as an executive producer.

This marks the second time Meyer’s bestselling book series will be adapted for the screen.

Only time will tell if the television adaptation will be the same star-maker the blockbuster films were, as they catapulted leads Robert PattinsonKristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to fame during the early 2010s.

The series also netted over $3.4 billion in the box office during its run, sparking a major cultural moment for vampires and teens alike.

When the Twilight remake was announced in 2023, Lionsgate was still searching for a writer before shopping the series around to distributors.

Burns also announced that Lionsgate plans to adapt the John Wick franchise into a television series, as well.

This news comes after Max announced it will be creating a Harry Potter television series based on the popular JK Rowling novels, signifying a possible new milestone in the IP wars.
