A group of climate activists disrupted Thursday night’s performance of An Enemy Of The People on Broadway, bringing the show to a brief halt.

Sopranos actor Michael Imperioli then intervened and physically confronted one of the protestors who was yelling “no theater on a dead planet.”

The best part? Imperioli stayed in character the whole time. You can watch the video below.

The scufflebutt came during a scene in the Ibsen play in which the lead character, played by Jeremy Strong, addresses a rowdy town hall gathering. Several protesters stood up, one by one in various sections of the audience, removing jackets to reveal t-shirts with the group’s logo and climate change slogans.

Circle in the Square management won’t be press ing any criminal charges and Imperioli says there are “no hard feelings.”

The protest was led by a group that calls itself “Extinction Rebellion NYC,” which took responsibility for the display on social media. Actor David Patrick Kelly had also intervened, shouting “write your own play!” at the protestors and helping Imperioli push one of the protestors up the stairs toward an exit.

Before the activist was booted, he managed to say “I object to the silencing of scientists. I am very, very sorry to interrupt your night and this amazing performance. I am a theater artist, I work in the theater professionally and I am throwing my career…”

At this point Imperioli yelled, “You need to leave. You’re interrupting,” while maintaining his 19th Century Norwegian mayor character’s tone. The audience applauded the actor’s response once the protestors were gone, with one person even shouting “Christopher!” in reference to his Sopranos character.

“Tonight was wild….no hard feelings extinction rebellion crew. michael is on your side but mayor stockmann is not. much love. m @anenemyplay @extinctionrebellion,” the actor posted to Instagram following the altercation.
