Drew Barrymore loves a man with a funky smell. On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress clearly became hot and bothered by the thought of a dirty boyfriend T-shirt with a musty scent.

During a Drew’s News topic, Ross Mathews explained a new study that found that people get sexually aroused by sweat and body odor. The experiment asked men to wear the same unwashed T-shirt for two days. When women were asked to pick which T-shirt (the dirty one or a clean one) they were more sexually attracted to, they were overall more interested in the one with the “more pungent smell.”

“That is not a good word for it! Pungent’s not sexy. How about, like — oh, god — pheromones,” Barrymore said, becoming increasingly flustered as she brushed her hands through her hair.

She continued, “The word boyfriend is so cute, and wearing the boyfriend T-shirt is the best. If it has the funk on it, it’s even more yummy. I’ve slept with them and nuzzled into them. I love this.”

Unlike Barrymore, Mathews joked that the smell of “dryer sheets” turns him on.

The talk show host previously dished on her love of “funk” in a May 2023 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show. During the Drew’s News segment, she and Mathews were chatting about the growing attraction to the “dirtbag” look — which they compared to the likes of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) from The Bear and Billy (Dacre Montgomery) from Stranger Things.

“I know that Drew — you get off on that musty boyfriend scent, the dirty T-shirt. You love that right?” Mathews asked at the time, to which Barrymore admitted, “I love funk.”

She later added, “I don’t want unhygienic, but I’m not sure that I’m also drawn to the manscaper. There’s a happy middle,” before joking, “I’ll get right in that pit and [inhales deeply].”
