In anticipation of welcoming Bravo’s Top Chef judge Gail Simmons onto Live with Kelly and Mark for a segment devoted to preparing eggs, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos took a crack at some puns.

“We’re gonna be talking about eggs today,” Consuelos shared. “We are going to be talking about eggs a lot. So eggs-pect a lot.”

He proceeded to read aloud survey results about “how people prefer their eggs cooked,” revealing “scrambled” to rank as the most popular at 45%.

After praising Ripa’s “great scrambled eggs,” he announced a “fried egg” and “sunny side up” as second and third most preferred by survey respondents respectively, the latter of which he continued to gush about.

“Sunny side up is nice, it’s pretty,” he explained. “You can dip your things in it and it runs. And then you get your bacon and you do that. And then if you’re really crazy, you get a pancake with some syrup on it and you mesh it up like that. You know? Also, I like a fried egg if I have some toast, I just put it in between there and I close it up and I let it run off the side down my arm.”

Ripa chimed in, “I know! You’re acting like I’m not with you when all of these things are happening.”

Consuelos teased, “Oh, was that you?”

Ripa replied, “Yes, that was me. I made all of those eggs!”

Toward the end of their host chat, Consuelos introduced their upcoming segment, highlighting that “Live‘s Cooking School continues with an eggs-cellent guide to eggs.”

“Ex-cellent,” he repeated, prompting Ripa to correct his pronunciation.

Egg-cellent,” she noted, emphasizing the first syllable of “egg.” “Get it?”

Consuelos added, “I’m gonna have high ex-pectations.”

Ripa clarified, “Egg-spectations. You can’t pronounce it ‘ex’ and just emphasize the ‘ex.’ It’s eggs-pectations. You’re egg-ceptional.”

Consuelos reiterated, “Egg-ceptional.”

“Get it? If you’re gonna utilize the puns…” Ripa told her husband, who clapped back, “Yeah, are you gonna say that egg-ain?”

His comeback certainly garnered some laughs, and some hoots and hollers from some men in the studio audience, prompting Ripa to fire back, “Quiet down, men.”
