Gwyneth Paltrow Recalls Being Told ‘Iron Man’ Would “Feel Like Doing An Indie Film”: “We Improvised Almost Every Scene Of That Movie”
Gwyneth Paltrow had some choice words for former President Bill Clinton nearly 30 years after she caught him “snoring” during a White House screening of Emma.
The actress appeared on the most recent episode of Hot Ones — a YouTube talk show in which host Sean Evans interviews celebrities whilst eating spicy chicken wings. During his chat with Paltrow, he asked her a series of true or false questions — one of which was about a story claiming Clinton, who was POTUS at the time, “passed out asleep” during a White House screening of her 1996 period comedy Emma.
“True. He was snoring right in front of me,” Paltrow confirmed, before sarcastically joking, “I was like, ‘Wow, I guess this is going to be a real hit movie.'”
She added, “But it was! So fuck you, Bill Clinton!”
The Jane Austen adaptation ultimately raked in more than $20 million at the global box office and currently holds a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Three years after starring in the film, Paltrow won her first and only Oscar to date for her role in Shakespeare in Love.
Paltrow’s experience in the White House wasn’t the only rumor she addressed on Hot Ones. She also revealed whether a prosthetic of her head made for the closing scene in Seven that didn’t end up making the final cut was reused 16 years later for an autopsy scene in Contagion.
“There was definitely a head made for Seven, and I do think there was a single frame of it used, but it’s imperceptible to the eye,” she said. “That’s what I’ve been told. So you can freeze-frame it.”
However, Paltrow was “not sure” if the prop was used again in Contagion, telling Evans, “That would be smart for saving on budget, I guess.”
The Goop owner also confirmed that Kiefer Sutherland was once her babysitter as a kid.
“Isn’t that cool? I was at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, where my mom was doing plays, and he was an apprentice,” she recalled. “He babysat me and my brother. And he was awesome.”
