UPDATE (Mar. 26, 2024 at 2:23pm): Variety has confirmed that there will be a fifth episode of Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV. The episode, set to release on April 7, 2024, will see interview subjects Drake Bell, Giovonnie Samuels, Bryan Hearne, and Tracey Brown, as well as new participants, in a conversation with Soledad O’Brien.

UPDATE (Mar. 25, 2024 at 2:55pm): Decider reached out to ID for clarification, and a representative responded “There is nothing to report at this time.”

The Investigation Discovery docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV has dominated pop culture conversations since its premiere, and now viewers speculate that there will be a surprise fifth episode.

The series, which includes testimonies from several former child stars, including Drake Bell from Drake & Josh and Bryan Hearne and Giovonnie Samuels from All That, explores the toxic culture behind the popular kids’ shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s — particularly the ones created by Dan Schneider for Nickelodeon.

The network advertised the series to contain four parts, but Google and Rotten Tomatoes list a fifth installment titled “Breaking the Silence,” set to air on April 7, 2024.

Decider has reached out to ID for clarification, but they did not respond by the time of publication.

It’s likely that Quiet on Set consists of four episodes, and the fifth episode is false information. As of now, there has been no official confirmation of the series continuing.

In addition to press releases repeatedly referring to the series consisting of “four parts,” directors and executive producers Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz recently alluded to the series being four hours in length in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

While chatting about the potential of a second season, Robertson said, “We would be happy to make four more hours on this subject.”

Those following the rumors have expressed frustration at the network for not offering clarification, with one writing, “Wish the Investigation Discovery Twitter would at least tweet something to confirm this and promote it if it’s true.” Others theorize that the network is scrambling to release more to “capitalize off how big and viral the documentary is,” or that Amanda Bynes will open up about her experience with Schnieder.

A report from last week alleged that Bynes declined to be interviewed for Quiet on Set because she didn’t have a “bad experience” working with Nickelodeon.

Following backlash from the docuseries, Schneider issued an apology, saying, “Me facing my past behaviors, some of which are embarrassing and I regret… and I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology.”

A spokesperson for Schneider denied that he sexualized children in his work. “Everything that happened on the shows Dan ran was carefully scrutinized by dozens of involved adults, and approved by the network. Had there been any scenes or outfits that were inappropriate in any way, they would have been flagged and blocked by this multilayered scrutiny,” the spokesperson wrote.
