In a very Oscars-esque move, Jesse Palmer invited former Bachelorette lead Charity Lawson to stage during The Bachelor Season 28’s three-hour live finale on March 25 so she could pass the torch on to the next Bachelorette lead.

In an unexpected twist — especially for fans of Joey Graziadei’s exes Maria Georgas and Daisy Kent — Lawson revealed that Bachelor Season 28 contestant Jenn Tran, a 26-year-old physician assistant student from Miami, Florida, is starring in the spin-off’s next season as the first Asian American Bachelorette lead in history.

“Growing up, I always wanted to see Asian representation on TV and I feel like it was really sparse. Any time Asians were in the media it was to fill supporting character roles, [or] fulfill some sort of stereotype, and I always felt boxed in by that,” Jenn told viewers. “I was like, ‘I don’t see myself on screen, I don’t see myself as a main character.’ And now to be here today sitting in this position saying I am going to lead my own love story I am going to be the main character…I just can’t help but think of how many people I’m inspiring and how many lives I’m changing.”

With Joey’s super successful season of The Bachelor behind us, members of Bachelor Nation are likely wondering when Jenn Tran’s season of The Bachelor premieres on ABC.

Who Is ThBachelorette‘s Season 28 Lead? Meet Jenn Tran

We already know Jenn appreciates a good time, because she famously rolled up to the Bachelor mansion on Night 1 in a go-kart and later raced Joey around the driveway. But what else do we know about Jenn ahead of The Bachelorette?

“Tran is a sweet and compassionate woman who has dedicated her life to helping others and is currently studying to become a physician assistant,” an ABC press release explained. “The bilingual Vietnamese beauty currently resides in Miami and is ready to find love with a man who’s as reliable and thoughtful as she is. When she’s not studying, Tran loves reading, paddleboarding and traveling whenever she has the chance.”

As noted in our Bachelor Season 28, Episode 3 recap,  Joey and Jenn went on a surfing one-on-one date where they picked out wetsuits and surfboards and Joey gave Jenn a lesson on waves. After the two shared some quality kisses on the beach, they went to dinner where Jenn told Joey she went through periods where she thought she was never going to be loved because of the way she grew up. “It was a really traumatic place to grow up in,” Jenn explained. “I never knew what a happy relationship was.” Jenn shared that her parents separated but her dad lived in the basement for six years. As time went on, their relationship “deteriorated to basically nothing.”

If memory serves, Jenn was also the daredevil who made poutine with pineapple, chocolate sauce, and Sriracha on a group date, she taught Joey to play the piano, and she stole him for a kiss mid-confessional in Jasper, Canada. (Did no one tell her Maria had an axe?!) Ahead of her pre-Hometown Week elimination, Jenn told Joey her family is “complicated,” he would be experiencing a merging of American and Vietnamese culture, and she had never brought anyone home to meet her parents.

During the Women Tell All special, Jenn joined Jesse on stage and gave an update on her post-Bachelor life, saying she had strong feelings for Joey and when she left “it was tough to sit there and just wonder what happened.” She also offered a positive update on her relationship with her parents. “In Asian culture you live with parents till you’re married, and after sometimes,” Jenn explained, saying her time on The Bachelor helped her mom see her as a more independent adult and was “monumental” for their relationship. Jenn also said that she and her brother talked about their complex relationship with their father after she opened up about her family on TV, and she had cousins and strangers with similar family lives reach out to offer support and connection.

Ultimately, Jenn said her Bachelor experience left her with ” a new sense of hope” and a desire to find love. So when will her Bachelorette season premiere?
