Sorry Haters, ‘Madame Web’ Is More Fun Than Any MCU Movie Since ‘Avengers: Endgame’
Sydney Sweeney is at the top of her game. She starred in hit shows like Euphoria and The White Lotus, and most recently put on her producing hat for movies like Anyone But You and Immaculate. But despite her meteoric success, even Sweeney has had her fair share of “embarrassing” audition stories.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the actress sat down with host Drew Barrymore to promote her new horror flick Immaculate. During an audience Q&A segment — titled “Face the Question” — one fan asked for Sweeney’s “most embarrassing” audition story, prompting the star to look back on one particular experience that left her “scarred.”
“I was for the first time testing for a recurring guest-star role on an ABC Family show,” she began. “And I have stage fright. And I’ve always only had auditions where it was just like one person in the room, which is the casting director. This was the first time I ever walked into a room and there was a table of all of these people.”
Sweeney continued, “I got so scared and nervous I just forgot all my lines. I couldn’t do it.”
According to the Madame Web star, the other people in the room kept telling her she could look at her lines — but she still buckled under the pressure.
“I was so scared and I was so nervous,” she reiterated. “I was 14. I remember I just started crying and I asked if I could leave.”

It’s unclear which show she auditioned for on ABC Family — which is now known as Freeform. Sweeney did appear in the series finale of Pretty Little Liars, which aired on the network from 2010 to 2017. However, she was much older (around 20 years old) when she appeared in the hit teen drama.
Sweeney — who began trying out for roles when she was only 12 years old — previously opened up about her stage fright when she revealed why she was too “terrified” to audition for any shows on Disney Channel.
“I had stage fright and I knew you had to do that in front of a live audience,” she told Buzzfeed, per Yahoo! News. “So that thought definitely terrified me a little bit.”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
