**Spoilers for all of 3 Body Problem Season 1, now streaming on Netflix**

It’s been almost a week since 3 Body Problem premiered on Netflix, taking viewers on a roller coaster ride through Newtonian physics, shocking murders, nano-particle meat grinders, space-soaring brains, and tweets telling us we’re bugs. And now we’re hungry for more. The 3 Body Problem finale — specifically Da Shi (Benedict Wong) — promises us that the work is not done. Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) has to figure out what he’s going to do as a newly minted Wallfacer, Jin (Jess Hong) has to move on from the perceived “failure” of the Staircase Project, and somewhere, a Sophon (Sea Shimooka) is terrorizing Thomas Wade (Liam Cunningham). The story is far from over! So does that mean that Netflix is committed to making 3 Body Problem Season 2?

3 Body Problem is the long-awaited Netflix adaptation of Chinese author Liu Cixin’s landmark Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy, which famously kicks off with The Three-Body Problem. The show also marks the return of Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to the small screen, as they created the show alongside Alexander Woo. The show introduces us to the Oxford Five, a group of genius friends who are soon embroiled in humanity’s most profound fight for survival. Auggie Salazar (Eiza González), Will Downing (Alex Sharp), Jack Rooney (John Bradley), and the aforementioned Saul and Jin find their world turned upside down after the death of their mentor ultimately leads to the revelation that an alien race called the San-Ti are on their way to conquer Earth in a few centuries.

3 Body Problem Season 1 ends with one of the Oxford Five dead, another technically dead (although his brain is floating in space), Auggie disenchanted with humanity, Saul reluctantly cast as a master strategist, and Jin devoted to the cause.

So what happens next? Will there be a 3 Body Problem Season 2? Here’s everything we know about 3 Body Problem Season 2 so far…

Will There Be a 3 Body Problem Season 2 on Netflix?

We don’t know yet! Netflix has yet to confirm or deny plans for a second season of 3 Body Problem. Meaning there is no official news yet on 3 Body Problem Season 2.

That said, there are a few things working 3 Body Problem‘s favor. Besides the fact that the show has been topping Netflix’s Top 10 for the last week, the streamer has already devoted a bunch of resources to the series usually only reserved for their biggest tentpoles. Think the custom “tudum” graphics at the top of each episode or the dedicated companion content.

However the most promising sign for 3 Body Problem Season 2 seems to be co-creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo’s plans for it…

What are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo’s Plans for 3 Body Problem Season 2?

If you’ve read Liu Cixin’s Remembrance of Earth‘s Past trilogy, you’ll already know that 3 Body Problem co-creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Alexander Woo have already slid early parts of the second and third books into the first season of the show.

“We’ve taken chunks of Book 2 and Book 3 and pushed them into the timeline of Book 1 because Book 2 and Book 3 start pretty much in what is the rough present,” Alexander Woo said during a journalist roundtable Decider attended. “But that still leaves a lot of meat on the bone…There’s still a lot left for us to navigate down the line. It’s just that, you know, the stuff that has taken place in the present we’ve put into Season 1.”

He continued: “But as you know, if you know the books, Season 2 has a lot that goes on and through time and space.”

We’ve already gotten teases that cryogenic tech might be used to preserve the likes of Thomas Wade and Jin Cheng while they sleep the decades or centuries away. Beyond that, we also have a tease from the same roundtable conversation that the reason why 3 Body Problem‘s co-creators went so hard on the attack on Judgment Day was to tee up a new direction for Auggie Salazar’s characters.

David Benioff said, “The repercussions of that [attack] carry on throughout the season and, you know, ideally into later seasons.”

3 Body Problem‘s co-creators weren’t the only ones teasing plans for future seasons to Decider, however. When we asked Rosalind Chao to explain the bad joke Ye Wenjie tells Saul Durand in the penultimate episode of 3 Body Problem Season 1, Episode 7 “Only Advance,” she was coy.

“You won’t know what I’ve imparted to him until Season 2,” Rosalind Chao told Decider. “So there has to be a Season 2. Otherwise, it’s just a bad joke, right?”

When Will 3 Body Problem Season 2 Premiere on Netflix?

Once again, we don’t know yet! However, given that production on Season 1 began in November 2021, we’d guess that Netflix needs at least 18 months to make a new season of 3 Body Season.

That means that if Netflix renews 3 Body Season tomorrow and the scripts are miraculously done and everything is ready to go, the earliest we could see 3 Body Season Season 2 would be the 2025 holiday season. However, a 2026 release date is more likely.
